Ronco Roaster: Fact or Fiction?
When someone says infomercial I instantly think of Ron Popeil and his multitude of products that are sold through TV spots. I’ll come clean upfront and admit that I’m a skeptic of anything sold on television, but for the first time I’m delving into the enigmatic world of infomercial products, and I’m going for the flagship product, the Ronco Showtime Roaster.
Product Description: The Ronco Showtime Rotisserie is a self-contained rotisserie kit that comes in three sizes, Compact, Standard, and Pro. The Ronco website had this description of the roaster:
“Fresh healthy food has never been easier to prepare. Our new Compact rotisserie features a 3-hour automatic timer so you can spend less time cooking and have more time for your active lifestyle. An included dual heating tray with lid let's you keep two vegetables piping hot.”
Basically, the Ronco Roaster is a standalone rotisserie oven that can cook just about anything without user supervision. Or so the story goes.
Product Testing: There was only one-way to test the Ronco Roaster, and that was to roast various types of food. To start we decided to try cooking a roast. Setting the Ronco Roaster up was fairly easy and simply involved pushing the spit through the roast and then setting the Ronco spit on the knobs that spin the roast around. After this you set the cook timer and leave it to cook.
